Fender Support Bridge for Wightlink

One section of the existing pedestrian walkway between berthing piles had to be removed and replaced with a new section designed to take a Cavotec vacuum berthing system. This weighs 13.8T and has to be designed for vertical and horizontal loads of 40T and 20T respectively. It also had to be installed without interruption of the ferry service which makes use of the walkway every 30 minutes. The solution was a rigid truss structure fixed between frames that were attached in advance to the piles.
