Island harbour Marina

This project involved dredging the existing marina to give additional depth and 60 berths. Sheet piling to protect the existing houses adjacent to the water. Foundations for some 18 houses on land and the building out of a platform over the water to support a further 30 houses and service road. In addition, a boat lift was constructed and repairs were carried out to the existing lock.

We were responsible for the contract documentation, all aspects of the design and the supervision of the contract on site. The houses on land were supported on augured piles, the jetty over water was of precast construction on top of steel tubular piles. We designed all the precast units which were cast by the main contractor.

The sheet piling was carried out using an innovative double wall system to provide stability in the unstable ground. The contract was carried out to a very tight schedule of 9 months from initial go ahead to final completion. In order to meet the programme the design had to proceed in tandem with the construction. The cost was controlled by the use of a target cost contract.

The job was completed on time and very close to the target cost.
