Changing to the use of refrigerated containers rather than speacialst banana boats meant that the water depth close to the quay wall was insufficient although deeper water is available a few metres away. Rather than rebuilding the quay it was decided to build stand off rafts thaty could be lifted in position when required and allow the berthing of large container ships. The rafts float with the tide and include all necessary fendering. They have been so successful we have recently had an enquiry for similar rafts from Abidjan.
